The new Disney Plus series Hawkeye has received nearly universal acclaim since its release on the streaming platform. With so much hype for the series, it seems like the show is a clear winner for Marvel and Disney. However, that might not be the case. In fact, it’s just been revealed that the Hawkeye premiere actually had the lowest ratings of any Disney Plus Marvel series to date.
This is quite surprising considering how well fans have been responding to the series. The low ratings were revealed by Deadline, who were able to note that the first episode had 1.5 million viewers during the Wednesday to Sunday period. When you compare this to the premiere of Loki, by way of the Samba TV rating system which measures 3 million US households, Loki actually managed to gain the attention of 2.5 million viewers during its debut. This means that Hawkeye dropped 40% when compared to its predecessor Loki.
This drop continued to the second episode, in which they lost about 200,000 viewers from the first episode. This is quite a drop considering both episodes were released at the same time. This means that entire number of people watched the first and then immediately decided not to watch the second. Of course, Hawkeye was also released just before Thanksgiving – so it’s possible the major holiday had something to do with the lower ratings.
In any case, the series has continued to receive great critical reception as time has passed. With that in mind, it looks like the series could still be considered a big success for the streaming platform. We’ll just have to see what happens as subsequent episodes are released on Disney Plus.
The cast for Hawkeye stars Jeremy Renner as the titular superhero and Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop. Vera Farmiga, Fra Fee, Tony Dalton, Zahn McClarnon, Brian d’Arcy James and newcomer Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez also star.
Fans can expect new episodes of Hawkeye to be added weekly every Wednesday.
