The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for intricately and carefully combining film after film, and show after show. But despite these attempts to maintain an overwhelming sense of continuity, there are occasional mistakes that slip through the cracks. In this case, one time-bending mistake that was spotted in the MCU film Black Widow is now going viral online.
The mistake is especially humorous because it has to deal with, of all things, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Specifically, there’s a My Little Pony toy inspired by that specific series in the MCU film Black Widow. But given the time-frame of the scene it’s in, it shouldn’t actually exist.
As noted on Reddit:
“When young Natasha and family arrive in Cuba and are taken away, Red Guardian is seen holding a doll that Yelena brought with her. That doll was a Twilight Sparkle doll from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic which ran from 2010-2020. Thus that doll should not exist in the 90s. Hell it shouldn’t even exist during the first Iron Man movie.
I would like to credit my 7 year old daughter who’s watched My Little Pony more times than I can count and has so many of the toys for me ever even noticing this”
It’s definitely a funny mistake to spot in Black Widow, and one that fans will probably never let Marvel forget. Of course, it’s worth noting that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is loaded with time travel, alternate universes, and such things that could easily explain away such an anachronism. After all, we’re about to see the full impact of the Multiverse in such upcoming films as Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. It isn’t too surprising that a My Little Pony toy could exist in the 1990’s when it shouldn’t, considering all of the other time-defying crossovers we’re about to witness.
