When actress Gina Carano was fired from the production of Disney Plus series The Mandalorian, many fans were shocked. After all, she had become such an important part of the show’s main cast – and it even seemed likely that she’d be part of her own spin-off, titled Rangers of the New Republic. Nevertheless, she was fired, and it was unclear how Lucasfilm would tackle her character Cara Dune going forward. After all, they could easily write around her absence – but according to a new report, they may simply recast Gina Carano altogether.
This new report comes via GFR, where they’ve made the suggestion that Lucasfilm is considering recasting the part of Cara Dune. And they must have the same thoughts as fans, as according to the report, they’re unsure of what the right decision might be. It’s also unknown if they have any specific actresses in mind to take on the role from Gina Carano. And, as always, information like this should be taken with a grain of salt.
Here’s what they had to say:
“Our source shared that Lucasfilm is considering recasting Gina Carano, but we didn’t confirm if they’re naming actresses at this point.”
It seems if Lucasfilm is considering recasting Gina Carano, then they’re still in the very early stages of doing so. But with production on The Mandalorian season 3 being prepped, they’ll likely come to a decision soon. Of course, they might also have plenty of time to come back to the character at another point in time. It isn’t the first time that the Star Wars franchise has played around with time jumps – they could very easily leave Cara Dune out of the narrative for The Mandalorian, and simply have an older woman play her in something set years after.
Either way, Gina Carano’s character Cara Dune was a popular one. While she isn’t a necessity for The Mandalorian, it’s clear that some fans would love to see her return. Although it’s likely they also only want Gina Carano to return, and the odds of that happening are zero at this point. Nevertheless, it’ll be interesting to see what happens going forward and whether or not Lucasfilm will recast Gina Carano.
