Of course when it comes to the new Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer, fans are focused on Spider-Man, the returning villains from previous franchises, and the possibility of the OG Spideys, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, returning as well. But there is something going on in the background that isn’t getting as much attention as it deserves. This movie will focus on a world moving forward from the original Avengers, specifically Captain America. In the first Hawkeye teaser, we saw ‘Rogers: The Musical’, a Broadway musical dedicated to Steve Rogers (and also a bit of a nod to the tragic, abysmal and failed ‘Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark’ musical). Now, we see another homage to the ‘fallen’ Avenger, and this one is on a much grander scale.
As we see in the trailer, it looks like the city of New York is turning one of the world’s most iconic landmarks, The Statue of Liberty, into ‘The World’s Largest Avenger’ and are adding a giant Captain America shield to the torch of the statue. It looks like America wants to honor their fallen hero in the biggest way possible, both physically and metaphorically. The grandiose gesture will be center stage of a huge battle in the film, one that may have more people involved than we first realized.
And while it is idolization at its finest, it makes sense as Captain America was on Earth during the five year blip period trying to help others grieve and then of course was a pivotal factor in the final battle against Thanos.

The population of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is not aware, like the audience is, that Steve Rogers didn’t actually die. They don’t know of his time travel to live a life with Peggy. Most people think he died in the battle, which is probably the story told by the media, while conspiracy theorists believe he is on the moon, still watching over Earth. Regardless, New York feels like honoring their home grown hero in the most extravagant way ever by adding a shield to Lady Liberty.
