It looks like the Pumpkinhead film franchise will soon be making a major comeback. The film series first began when special effects master Stan Winston made his directorial debut with the original Pumpkinhead in 1988. The film focused on Lance Henriksen’s character Ed Harley, a man in rural America who summons the beast to get vengeance after his son is accidentally killed.
Now it’s been revealed that this original Pumpkinhead will be getting a brand new remake from Paramount Players.
As revealed via Bloody-Disgusting, it’s been stated that a script for the film is complete:
“We hear a script is completed and that production is ramping up. Hoping to have director news in the coming months.”
They also noted that a script for a new film was previously written by Nate Atkins for producer Peter Block a few years ago. Nevertheless, it sounds like this take on the film is being rushed into production and we can expect more concrete news in the coming months. This is exciting for fans who’ve been waiting for the franchise to come back. While there was a fun comic book series released in 2018, the iconic property has been otherwise dormant. This is quite shocking considering the original film managed to get three sequels between 1994 and 2007.
Of course, none of those films have quite seen the success of the first movie. As a result, this new remake from Paramount Players has the potential to finally do justice once again to Stan Winston’s horrifying demon of vengeance. Let’s hope that production on the new film continues to ramp up smoothly and that we’ll have more news soon. With this in mind, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for updates on the Pumpkinhead remake as we have them.
Paramount Players is currently also working on Orphan: First Kill, Something’s wrong With Rose, Curfew, and a prequel to their recent Pet Sematary film adaptation.
