When it comes to Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, many fans will argue on how this is the best interpretation of the character on screen to date or not. Regardless, the majority of fans love that Spidey is in the MCU and is getting to move forward from his origin instead of focusing on something that has been covered, in detail, twice already on the silver screen within the last twenty years. So, Tom Holland’s Wall Crawler hasn’t focused on the well known origin any more than just a few throwaway lines and instead moved forward with his story.
But, fans are still curious how the MCU version came to be. Now, they’ll get to find out.
Disney Plus Day has brought us the news that Marvel Animation is doing a Spidey origin story series with Spider-Man: Freshman Year. The show will revolve around Holland’s Peter Parker gaining his powers and how he becomes the friendly, neighborhood hero we love today. It will be a modern take on the classic origin story fans no all too well. Here is the official synopsis:
“The animated series follows Peter Parker on his way to becoming Spider-Man in the MCU, with a journey unlike we’ve ever seen and a style that celebrates the character’s early comic book roots.”
Legendary artist Steve Ditko brought Spider-Man to life back in the sixties with a unique style. If the series plays tribute to Ditko as suggested, this will be a beautiful looking show that looks to reimagine Peter’s journey into a modern, MCU world. We could even get further confirmation on the retcon of the little kid in Iron Man 2 at the Stark Expo being Parker.
The biggest aspect of this though is that we should finally get an MCU Uncle Ben and maybe even the iconic ‘With great power comes great responsibility’ line we’ve all been waiting for. All in all, fans should be excited for what’s to come in Spider-Man: Freshman Year!
