When it comes to Marvel’s What If…?, fans were introduced to many multiversal stories that were otherwise thought to never get their chance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One such story that made fans arguably the most excited was Episode 5 – Marvel Zombies! That episode ended on a huge cliffhanger, but thanks to Disney Plus Day, we now know that we are getting a full stand alone animated series about Marvel’s Mightiest Undead!
Marvel announced around the release of What If…? that they were opening a Marvel Animation division, which let fans know that many more animated series were to come down the line. Disney Plus Day has let many cats out of the bag, including a revival of the groundbreaking 1997 X-Men animated series and Spider-Man: Freshman Year. But Marvel Zombies might just be the most exciting. Many people assumed that the Disney owned Marvel Studios would never even touch this comic book arc. It seems like something outside the realm of ‘The Mouse’.
But, in animated form, we are about to get a deeper look into the MCU version that started with a Quantum Virus and overtakes heroes and villains alike.
There were many questions after the biggest cliffhanger of the What If…? Series. The surviving heroes were headed to Wakanda, supposedly the last safe haven on Earth. And they had the Mind Stone in tow. However, they had a menace waiting for them, as a Zombie Thanos with five of the six Infinity Stones had made it to Wakanda before them. Now, this new series will hopefully pick up where this episode left off and show us how what’s left of humanity will fight to survive against arguably the most dangerous version of Thanos ever.
There’s no word yet on when the series will drop, but it is now in development and more information will be coming soon!
