Disney Plus Day has been a cornucopia of exciting news from Disney, Star Wars, Pixar and Marvel. Announcements, trailers, reveals and more have fans foaming at the mouth with anticipation. We’ve gotten teasers for Moon Knight, She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel. We got announcements for a ‘97 X-Men animated series revival, a Spider-Man origin cartoon series and even Marvel Zombies! One sleeper announcement, though, may end up being one of the most incredible series from Marvel to date in Echo.
Marvel released a title image for Echo, a Disney Plus series based on a not so well known character from the comics. Echo will first appear in the upcoming Hawkeye series before getting her own story. While Echo is a street level villain with ties to Daredevil, Kingpin, Hawkeye, Moon Knight and more, she is an incredible character. She is completely deaf, relying solely on her sight to fight. She is basically the antithesis of Daredevil. She also has photographic reflexes, similar to the comic book version of Taskmaster. She can see something once, like a fighting style, and immediately mimic and thus counter said style.
Echo, real name Maya Lopez, has the ability to steal the show in Hawkeye. This is evident by the fact that her series was announced before production on Hawkeye was even finished. Compare that to Agatha Harkness or Monica Rambeau, who are also getting series, but only after becoming huge fan favorites in their debuts, and Echo should be quite outstanding as a character.
Echo also represents both LatinX representation and representation for the deaf community which is huge. Marvel is moving forward with adding more diversity to the MCU and finally giving fans a universe that is full of every type of person. It is unclear when we will get Echo but it will certainly be highly anticipated after the Hawkeye series at the end of this month and get our first glimpse at this under-appreciated character.
