Spider-Man: No Way Home has become a bit of an enigma in Hollywood. The movie is just a month out from its release, yet the marketing has been next to no-existent. However, this doesn’t stop this movie from arguably being one of the most anticipated films of all time. Not just in the comic book movie genre, but in all of cinema. This is many due to the countless barrage of rumors and leaks that point to a live action Spider-Verse style movie, bringing back both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield to the franchise as their version of the Wall Crawler alongside the MCU’s Tom Holland. Not to mention the cavalcade of villains we are getting from all three franchises, getting fans closer to an on screen Sinister Six than ever.
Most of these rumors, however, come from some very unreliable sources, and even the seemingly real leaks recently have to be called into question. Now, alongside several other rumored actors who have denied their involvement, another Spidey Alum has seemingly debunked their return.
Kirsten Dunst, who famously played Mary Jane Watson in the original Spider-Man trilogy, spoke with Total Film and denied that she is returning to the role of MJ for this movie:
“I’m not in that movie, no [laughs]. I know there’s rumors, right?… No, I’m the only one [not in it]. ‘Can’t put an old girl in there!”
Of course, just like the rumors we’ve been hearing, we also must take what the actors say with a grain of salt. Of course they will deny their involvement, they’re sworn to secrecy by the studios (unless you’re Alfred Molina, and you don’t care about letting the cat out of the bag). If the leaked photos are to be believed, then Andrew Garfield has been lying his pants off about not being in the film for months.
At this point, fans should prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Except nothing so that any surprise feels amazing. And we will just have to wait and see if Dunst was telling the truth or not come December 17th when Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters.
