You remember Secret Invasion, right? That “little” arch in the Marvel Comics that fans of the comics would talk about years on end? Well, Marvel Studios still has plans to make it into a live-action show and this week we got a glimpse of what’s to come. On Disney Plus Day, we were given an intriguing character photo of Nick Fury played by Samuel L. Jackson was released.

The last time we saw the head of S.H.I.E.L.D in the current MCU timeline, the real Nick Fury was on a spaceship taking a small vacation with the Skrulls. It looks like the man himself will be returning to action in a big way with the Marvel Studios produced show, Secret Invasion. Little is known about the show, but we can at least see how Fury looks this time around.

So far we can say that Kingsley Ben-Adir of One Night in Miami has been cast as the lead villain. Also set to appear are Emilia Clarke and Oscar-winning actress Olivia Colman – but their roles have not to been disclosed. Filming for Secret Invasion started back in September 2021, with Jackson hopping onboard production in October.

The Disney Plus show is created by Kyle Bradstreet and adapts the storyline of the same name from the comic series by Brian Michael Bendis and Leinil Francis Yu.

It makes sense why we haven’t exactly seen any footage of the series but that hasn’t stopped fans from guessing who will show up and how close the series will follow the comic book material. Given the released photo of Nick Fury, I would have to guess that Marvel Studios is planning on exploring the character more than ever before.

There are definitely a lot of twists and turns in the Marvel Comics’ Secret Invasion event that would be ripe to use in the live-action series.

Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion will have six episodes and is on track to premiere in 2022.
