Black Adam has been a passion project for Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson for over ten years now. The story of the ancient anti-hero/villain from DC Comics is one that Johnson has put his heart and soul into over the last decade, hurdling every roadblock in his way to bring one of the original champions of Shazam to the big screen. Now that dream is finally becoming a reality as The Rock is in the final stages of production for the movie which will also bring the Justice Society of America to the cinema.
Now, thanks to some upfront knowledge from a producer on the film, we know that principal photography is wrapped and the first cut of the movie is done and ready for to move forward!
While at the premiere for Johnson’s new Netflix film, Red Notice, producer Hiram Garcia revealed to Variety whilst on the red carpet that the first of the movie, the ‘director’s cut’, is done and ready to go and he couldn’t be more excited for the fans who he thinks will love it:
“We just saw the director’s cut. I am so excited. You get in this business, you have dreams and stuff you want to make, but I’ve always wanted to make a superhero. All of us — me, Dany [Garcia] and [Dwayne Johnson] — have had a dream of doing it. So to finally have our superhero movie, and to see our first cut of it and realize that we got something special here? I think the fans are gonna love it.”
#BlackAdam producer Hiram Garcia previews what to expect from Dwayne Johnson's anti-hero film: "The movie's big and it's a lot of fun. But it's got a lot of edge to it, and I think the world is ready for that." https://t.co/M232HP48fJ pic.twitter.com/FTmdCDA2T8

He elaborates that while it will be a fun movie, it is a different tone than most superhero movies. It is also a different type of character for Dwayne Johnson to play. One that rides the line between good and evil and will kill you in an instant if you cross him without even batting an eye. Johnson hasn’t played a dark or villainous character since the terrible take on a 2005 video game movie, Doom, where his by-the-letters soldier character (spoiler coming if you haven’t seen it) did a sudden 180 out of nowhere and became the villain. Most of Johnson’s characters have revolved around straight forward hero roles, so seeing him dive deeper across this line into this role could be fun for audience.
After the tease fans got at DC Fandome, people are excited to see Black Adam on the big screen and what The Rock brings to us all in his version of a superhero film, along with the company he is bringing with him.
