It’s been over a decade since the last solo Hulk movie was released in 2008. Due to rights issues with Universal over the beloved character, Marvel has had an incredibly difficult time trying to place Hulk in his own movie again. But according to new reports, it looks like that’s no longer going to be a problem. It’s looking like a World War Hulk movie could soon be on the way.
Marvel has already been working on expanding the Hulk brand, via the upcoming Disney Plus series She-Hulk. But it seems like they could be doing the same on the big screen as well. This is exciting news for fans who’ve been waiting the past 13 years for a new solo Hulk movie to be made.
As revealed via The GWW:
“A Hulk movie is on the way and it is currently being called, World War Hulk. Yes, we are finally have a new “solo” Hulk film in active development at Marvel Studios and we were told it is currently slated to start production in late 2022, likely following the events of the upcoming She-Hulk series on Disney +.”
A previous rumor which can be sourced back to 2020 stated that Disney reacquired the Hulk rights from Universal. If so, then this makes sense why we’re finally getting a new solo Hulk movie again. This also means we could be expecting an entire series of new movies to go into production, as the 2008 film The Incredible Hulk so far doesn’t have any sequels. And Marvel likely wants to make up for that.
As for why Marvel could be adapting World War Hulk as a movie, it isn’t too surprising. The comic book storyline followed the events of Planet Hulk. Fans likely remember that Planet Hulk was already partially adapted in Thor: Ragnarok. So at this rate, Marvel is right on schedule.
If the film goes into production in 2022, the release date could be scheduled for 2023 or 2024.
