It’s become quite known at this point that actor Alec Baldwin accidentally fired a prop gun on the set of the western film Rust. The gun, which wasn’t supposed to have live ammunition, ended up killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza. With such a tragic incident, it immediately calls to mind another such event that occurred on the set of The Crow. As those who know might recall, actor Brandon Lee was accidentally killed while a fellow actor used a prop gun during production. Now the family of Brandon Lee have given a statement over the incident with Alec Baldwin on the set of Rust.
Brandon Lee’s sister Shannon Lee expressed their condolences on Twitter, and noted that “hearts go out” to both Halyna Hutchins’ and Joel Souza’s families. What’s more, they noted that “no one should ever be killed by a gun on a film set.”
As fully stated in the below post:
“Our hearts go out to the family of Halyna Hutchins and to Joel Souza and all involved in the incident on “Rust”. No one should ever be killed by a gun on a film set. Period.”

It’s definitely a tragic incident that occurred on the set of Rust with Alec Baldwin, Halyna Hutchins, and Joel Souza, and an equally tragic one that happened during production on The Crow with Brandon Lee. There’s no doubt that Brandon Lee’s family was reminded of what happened to Brandon Lee by hearing of this, and it’s awful that such a similar event had to happen in the first place. There should most definitely be rules and precautions established to keep these types of events from happening. Especially on film sets where activities should be monitored and maintained safely.
As of this writing, it’ll be interesting to see where this story develops and hopefully it moves Hollywood to continue making their industry a safer one for everyone involved.
