Video game adaptations have been a real crap shoot in Hollywood. They have all pretty much been some of the worst films ever made, at best. That is until recently when movies like Sonic the Hedgehog, Detective Pikachu and the new version of Mortal Kombat have seemed to reverse that trend a bit. Now, one of the most beloved franchises for the PlayStation in Uncharted is set to get the cinematic treatment with Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Sully and we now have our first trailer.
This film looks to bring the game to the big screen and may very way play up the early years of the characters, considering the ages of both actors compared to the roles they’re playing from the games. Wahlberg is even missing the iconic Sully mustache! Talk about MustacheGate 2.0! Despite that, both actors look good in the trailer and seem to fit into the aesthetic quite well.

There is a lot riding on this film for Sony. The game franchise has quite a rabid following, so there are very high expectations for this movie. However, Nolan North, beloved voice actor for the series, has high praise for Tom Holland in the role:
“He’s a super nice kid. Big fan of [Uncharted]. He’s enthusiastic. He’s so athletic. He’s an amazing dancer. He actually did a lot of, with safety harnesses, he did a lot of the stunts. His physical intelligence is off the chain, the way he moves.”
Knowing that Holland is a huge fan of the games should help ease a little tension as to what he will bring to the role.
With the film coming at the beginning of 2022, the marketing is kicking off and we can maybe get an idea of the story and where it’s going to go. Fingers crossed that this is another good video game adaptation akin to the recent Sonic movie and not another Super Mario Bros. debacle.
