Venom: Let There Be Carnage is currently killing it at the box office, exciting fans with a good sequel and an even better post-credits scene (obvious SPOILERS ahead if you haven’t seen the film yet). The multiverse is fully busted wide open and we’re getting the long awaited Spider-Man/Venom interaction very soon! But, there is another important moment that came in the final minutes of the film, before the credits, that not as many people are taking about. It looks like we have some idea of what’s to come in the third Venom film.
Throughout the film, we of course got to see Eddie Brock and Venom. We also got the first ever live action adaptation of one of Marvel’s deadliest villains with Carnage. We even saw Shriek, who may or may not have been a mutant in this movie. We also got Detective Patrick Mulligan. Die hard comic book fans may have recognized that name and tat’s because Patrick Mulligan ends up as Toxin, a heroic symbiote that is an enemy of both Venom and Carnage upon his debut.
Toxin is a child of Carnage, just a Carnage is a child of Venom. But, by bonding with a cop, both Venom and Carnage fear he may be a hero instead of a villain like themselves and thus become a nemesis. And they were right, as Toxin proved to be on the good side and had the potential to be stronger than both of them combined. But, didn’t Mulligan meet his demise in Venom 2? Yes, and no.
As Mulligan was fading away, part of Carnage landed on him and entered his body. One of the final scenes was a close up on Mulligan as his eyes glowed blue, signaling that he indeed survived and with a new ‘addition’. The question now is, will the cinematic version of Toxin be a hero or villain? Fans will probably not want to see a third symbiote v symbiote film after Venom: Let There Be Carnage, treading the same water, so could Toxin be an uneasy ally to Venom? After all, Venom doesn’t really care for Mulligan, nor does Brock – but if the threat is big enough, a partnership could be on the table.
