Venom: Let There Be Carnage is out now in theaters, ready to try and break some more October box office records like the first film. It also looks to change the minds of all of those who didn’t care for the first film and denounced this interpretation of one of Spider-Man’s biggest allies/villains. Venom is a long standing and popular character who has been on both sides of good and evil, usually straddling in the line as an anti-hero. And now, thanks to the insane post-credits scene in the new movie, it looks like Eddie Brock and the Symbiote will get to spread their ‘lethal protection’ much further in Venom 2. Let’s break down that scene.
*SPOILERS AHEAD FOR VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE!*
So, by the end of the film, Eddie and Venom are kind of on the run and have escaped to a tropical island of sorts. They are laying low for now, figuring out their path. As Eddie lies in the bed of this dingy and dark motel, he and Venom are watching some kind of Latin soap opera on TV. Venom and he debate whether the show’s male lead is in the right before the discussion switches to Venom’s species, the Klyntar, and their history. Venom explains that Eddie’s feeble human mind cannot even begin to comprehend the 80 billion years of collective hive mind knowledge, but offers to give him the smallest percentage of it as a taste.
However, before Venom can do this, everything changes. The room shakes a bit and suddenly shifts from the dingy and dark motel room to a bright and nice resort hotel room. Eddie and Venom are thoroughly confused and it only gets worse when the TV changes as well. Instead of their soap opera, we see J. Jonah Jameson from the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home wrapping up his huge ‘exclusive’ where he is revealing Spider-Man’s true identity as Peter Parker to the world! And Venom sees Spidey and licks the screen, overtly impressed with the specimen that is the super-powered Peter. The scene ends with Eddie on the floor, bewildered, and a man walking out of the shower, asking why he was in his hotel room…
After seeing this scene, I try to say this without any hyperbole… This may be the greatest and most important mid credits scene in the history of cinema. The implication here is that Eddie Brock and Venom have been transported to the Marvel Cinematic Universe! Could it be because the multiverse was broken wide open at the end of the Loki series? Is it a ramification from Doctor Strange’s seemingly broken spell in the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home? A combination of both?! We don’t know just yet, but the fact that Sony and Disney are bleeding their worlds together on this is insanity in the best possible way. We are finally going to get an interaction between Tom Holland’s Spidey and Tom Hardy’s Venom! And what does this mean for the rest of the Sony Spidey properties? Who knows, but what we do know is that Eddie Brock/Venom is now in the MCU!
