The Marvel Cinematic Universe is ever expanding, coming out of a traumatic stand still that was 2020 and giving us all new content moving forward into Phase 4 and the new frontier after the events of the Infinity Saga. We see new avenues of storytelling with the Disney Plus series being the first official television series to canonically connect with the films. We’re seeing Marvel take chances with more unique storytelling methods and incredible stories as they dive into a complex multiverse. They are introducing new heroes left and right. The next film, Eternals, will bring us some of the most ancient and most powerful beings in the MCU yet. Now, the film has finally received its official MPAA rating.
While Marvel is looking to possibly go a little more ‘adult’ with future titles like Deadpool 3 and even Blade, possibly going R rated for those films, Eternals will stay the course as the rest of the MCU with a PG-13 rating. The official rating states that it’s getting this for “fantasy violence and action, some language, and brief sexuality”. Pretty standard stuff for a Marvel film, but it also garners the hope of yet another successful story.
Eternals will be the third MCU film of the year, following the success of both Black Widow and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. And while it follows the Marvel ‘formula’, it looks to stand on its own with its incredible cinematography and complex story spanning thousands of years.
Eternals will bring a lot of depth to the cosmic history of the MCU as well as answer questions like ‘Where were the Eternals during Thanos’ invasion and The Snap’? And, with that ratings description, it would seem that we will also the romantic subplot many have theorized between Ikaris, Sersi, and Dan Whitman/The Black Knight. Look for the movie in theaters exclusively on November 5th.
