The Hellraiser franchise is expanding with a brand-new reboot, one that will return to the roots of the original story. The project is currently in production, and we already know that actress Odessa A’zion will play one of the lead Cenobites – presumably a new take on Pinhead. While it’s unclear as of this moment what other characters will be utilized in the film, writer David Goyer has teased some exciting updates. In fact, he’s teased some of the other Cenobites that we can expect in the upcoming Hellraiser reboot.
As he revealed while speaking with Collider:
“I will say that we went back to the original novella for the source material, we’re really honoring Clive’s work,” Goyer stated.
He further added the following about director David Bruckner and the work he’s completed so far:
“I can say that David Bruckner is a genius. It’s filming right now. The footage is terrifying and amazing, and the Cenobites are jaw-dropping.”
This is exciting news. There are so many takes on Hellraiser with the film franchise, many of which haven’t quite hit well with fans. As such, there’s a lot of possibilities with going back to basics and reintroducing the concept. While it’s sure to alienate some fans, if David Brucker and his team can crack the right balance, then this new Hellraiser could just win everyone over. Especially if these new Cenobites from the upcoming Hellraiser reboot really are “jaw-dropping.” Of course, we’ll just have to continue waiting to see what happens on that front. As such, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for updates on the upcoming Hellraiser reboot as we have them.
David Bruckner is directing the Hellraiser reboot which is intended for a release on the Hulu streaming service. Along with the aforementioned David Goyer, the screenplay for the film was written by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski.
