The 2009 horror film Orphan is getting a brand new prequel, which will see Isabelle Furhman reprise her role as Esther. She initially played the role as a child, something which surprised audiences at the time. Now it seems like she’ll be surprising audiences in an entirely new way, by tackling the role as an adult. It’s been stated that makeup and filmmaking styles will be utilized to once again make Isabelle Furhman appear as a child. With so much anticipation for the upcoming film, fans are eager to know more. Now it’s been revealed that Paramount has acquired the rights to Orphan: First Kill.
As revealed via THR:
“Paramount Players has picked up the domestic rights to horror thriller Orphan: First Kill from eOne and Dark Castle.”
This is exciting news, and it means we’re even closer to finally seeing the film released. The project is currently in post-production. Now that all of the pieces are coming together, we should expect more news in the near future. As for the plot of the film…
“First Kill centers on Leena, a murderous sociopath who looks like a child due to a medical condition. Following an escape from an Estonian psychiatric facility, Leena comes to America by impersonating the missing daughter of a wealthy Connecticut family. But Leena’s new life as ‘Esther’ comes with an unexpected wrinkle and pits her against a mother who will protect her family at any cost.”
William Brent Bell directed the film from a screenplay by David Coggeshall.
The cast for the film will once again feature Isabelle Fuhrman as the horrifying and murderous Esther. Actress Julia Stiles is also part of the cast alongside Rossif Sutherland, Matthew Finlan and Hiro Kanagawa.
At this point we still don’t have an official release date, but now that Paramount has acquired the film, it’s expected that we’ll hear one soon. As such, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for updates on the upcoming sequel Orphan: First Kill as we have them.
