As everyone should know at this point, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have been involved in a series of legal issues and lawsuits. The issues began when Johnny Depp and Amber Heard were divorced, following Heard’s claims that Johnny Depp abused her. The claims cost Johnny Depp some of his biggest Hollywood roles, and as such he sued her for defamation. This included a UK case which went in Amber Heard’s favor, but now it appears that things are working in favor of Johnny Depp as well. In particular, Amber Heard attempted to have the judge dismiss his defamation lawsuit against her in the US. But as it turns out, the judge denied her request.
As revealed via Fox Business, it appears that the judge claimed this lawsuit to be “inherently different” from the UK lawsuit that didn’t go in Johnny Depp’s favor. According to Chief Judge Penney S. Azcarate, this also has to deal with the differences between American and UK law. She felt it was best to treat the two separately, especially because allowing one to influence the other would have a “chilling effect.” One that “could create a dangerous precedent.”
She also noted the court “is not persuaded by [Heard’s] argument that [Depp] had a full and fair opportunity to litigate the UK Action.”
What’s more, Azcarate actually called Heard’s arguments against Depp “especially puzzling” and “nonsensical.” If you were thinking things were one-sided, however, that isn’t exactly the case either. Johnny Depp was also denied sanctions by the judge that were requested against Amber Heard’s lawyers for filing to dismiss his lawsuit.
With Johnny Depp in the midst of being boycotted by Hollywood, he’s clearing still feeling the heat of Amber Heard’s claims against him. Of course, depending on how these future lawsuits continue, the tables could also turn against Amber Heard. Especially considering this instance where Amber Heard was denied her request to dismiss Depp’s lawsuit. For the time being, however, she seems to be doing just fine – even filming the upcoming sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
