John Carpenter’s Halloween has always been remembered greatly for its iconic use of music. The soundtrack has become well-regarded as one of the greatest that the horror genre has to offer, and a lot of that is due to John Carpenter’s musical talents. Now John Carpenter will be reusing those musical talents to compose the score for Halloween Kills, albeit with the assistance of his son Cody Carpenter and godson Daniel Davies. The three previously created the score for the 2018 Halloween film, something which blended the classic musical cues of the 1978 original with a more modern twist. Now, as you can hear in the newly released Halloween Kills music track Unkillable, they’ll be doing the same for the newest installment in the franchise.
Sacred Bones Records also emphasized just how important Unkillable and the rest of the Halloween Kills soundtrack is to the highly anticipated film:
“It’s just five notes plucked out on a piano, so sparsely arranged that it feels like barely more than a sketch, so simple that an untrained player can easily pick it up, but it’s one of cinema’s greatest musical accomplishments. By now, John Carpenter’s hypnotic theme to his 1978 horror masterpiece Halloween has embodied slasher-stalker anxiety for generations of filmgoers, and woven itself so into pop culture that it’s become musical shorthand for the entire horror genre. And like the seemingly unkillable Michael Meyers, it’s back once again.”
As released via Sacred Bones Records:
In the upcoming sequel which sees the return of antagonist Michael Myers…
“Minutes after Laurie Strode, her daughter Karen and granddaughter Allyson left masked monster Michael Myers caged and burning in Laurie’s basement, Laurie is rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, believing she finally killed her lifelong tormentor. But when Michael manages to free himself from Laurie’s trap, his ritual bloodbath resumes. As Laurie fights her pain and prepares to defend herself against him, she inspires all of Haddonfield to rise up against their unstoppable monster. The Strode women join a group of other survivors of Michael’s first rampage who decide to take matters into their own hands, forming a vigilante mob that sets out to hunt Michael down, once and for all.”
Halloween Kills was directed by David Gordon Green who also helmed the 2018 film. He wrote the script alongside Danny McBride and Scott Teems. The film features a cast that includes Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Charles Cyphers, Anthony Michael Hall, Kyle Richards, Nancy Stephens, Jibrail Nantambu, and Robert Longstreet. James Jude Courtney and Nick Castle both return as Michael Myers.
Audiences will be able to see Halloween Kills this year on October 15, 2021. Likewise, the soundtrack will also be available on that date.
