It’s been previously reported that a new Pet Sematary film is being developed for Paramount Plus. The report came not long after Paramount successfully released a new 2019 adaptation of the original novel written by Stephen King. Interestingly, however, this new entry apparently isn’t a sequel to the 2019 Pet Sematary film. Rather, this new project appears to be a prequel. Now we’ve received some interesting cast details for the upcoming Pet Sematary prequel film.
As revealed via THR, it looks like the cast will include Natalie Alyn Lind, Jack Mulhern, Forrest Goodluck, and Isabella Star LaBlanc. What’s more, fans can also expect Jud Crandall to appear in this film – this time portrayed by actor Jackson White. He was previously portrayed by John Lithgow in the 2019 film.

Aside from these new cast details, there still isn’t much else known about the Pet Sematary prequel film. But we can hope to hear more details soon, especially with casting underway. Meanwhile, Lindsey Beer will direct the film – and she’s also written the latest draft of the script. Jeff Buhler who wrote the 2019 Pet Sematary film wrote the prior draft of the script.
With both old and new perspectives taking on the story, it’ll be exciting to see what kind of narrative they’ve managed to craft. Especially if it tells what will most likely be an untold story in the Pet Sematary franchise.
The film is currently scheduled to begin shooting this summer, so stay tuned to ScreenGeek for updates on that front as we have them. The Pet Sematary franchise first made its way to the big screen in 1989, when a film based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name was released. The film was followed by a single sequel starring Edward Furlong in 1992. The franchise was then dormant until the 2019 remake, so it’ll be interesting to see how its continuation turns out. Especially as an exclusive for Paramount Plus.
