One of the more interesting and unique horror films in recent years has been Don’t Breathe, Fede Alvarez’s grisly follow-up to the 2013 Evil Dead remake. While the Evil Dead franchise is switching directions, however, it looks like the storyline of Don’t Breathe is being continued. This time in a new sequel directed by original Don’t Breathe co-writer Rodo Sayagues. And, as you can see below, the first trailer for the upcoming sequel Don’t Breathe 2 has been released as well.
It definitely appears that this film will be quite different from the original film, which is definitely refreshing. Of course, it’s also nice to see that the film exists as a direct sequel to Don’t Breathe – unlike the next film in the Evil Dead franchise, which ignores the 2013 remake and instead follows the events of the original Evil Dead trilogy. So while Fede Alvarez isn’t returning to direct Don’t Breathe 2, it appears that Rodo Sayagues has done a terrific job at taking over the reigns as director and crafting a true sequel.
One can only hope that this new entry will be just as unique amidst the other horror films of 2021, just as the original Don’t Breathe was in 2016. It’s been a long wait since then to see Stephen Lang return as the Blind Man, so let’s hope it was worth it. But judging by the new trailer for Don’t Breathe 2, it more than likely will be.
In the new film…
“The Blind Man has been hiding out for several years in an isolated cabin and has taken in and raised a young girl orphaned from a devastating house fire. Their quiet life together is shattered when a group of criminals kidnap the girl, forcing the Blind Man to leave his safe haven to save her.”
The upcoming horror film Don’t Breathe 2 is currently scheduled to hit theaters next month on August 13, 2021.
