A new trailer has been revealed for the multiplayer component of Halo: Infinite, and it’s an action-packed display of what’s to come. The footage shows off both classic game modes and new gameplay components like a new grapple hook tool. What’s more, the game is intended to run at up to 120 frames per second on the Xbox Series X console. It definitely looks like things are moving in the right direction following the game’s previous delay.
Here’s what Joseph Staten, creative lead for Halo Infinite, had to say via Xbox:
“When it comes to gameplay, our goal is to deliver a multiplayer experience that honors classic Halo combat while also offering new players the support needed to jump in and have a great time,” he said. “To that end, we’re introducing the Spartan Academy and Spartan Commander Laurette who will help players familiarize themselves with maps, weapons, and equipment.”
It appears that the game will also introduce bot matches “so players new and old can warm up before they hit the battlefield.” Furthermore, the multiplayer component of the new franchise installment will actually be free-to-play on both Xbox and PC. The game will also include crossplay and cross-progression across the different platforms. Check out the Halo: Infinite multiplayer trailer for yourself down below:
As for the setup of the campaign component, Joseph Staten had this to say:
“We are continuing the story of the Master Chief and Cortana from Halo 5, but also telling a story that’s welcoming for new players. Cortana’s fate is one of the Infinite campaign’s big mysteries, and early in the story, you will meet a new UNSC AI, “the Weapon”, that was created to help stop Cortana. Together with the Pilot, the Master Chief, and the Weapon begin an epic adventure to explore Zeta Halo, defeat the Banished forces who control the ring, and unravel even more mysteries along the way.”
The game’s multiplayer component is expected to launch alongside the campaign component this fall. We should have “technical previews” for Halo: Infinite this summer and hopefully a more exact release date for the fall launch soon. This is definitely a nice surprise since the last gameplay video we saw.
