While we wait for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe epic, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, fans are eager to know what kind of villain we can expect for the film. After all, if the movie is truly going to explore the concept of the multiverse and the many heroes and villains within – the big bad must surely be a formidable foe. And, according to a new report, it looks like the villain for the next Doctor Strange will certainly be just that. In fact, it actually confirms previous reports that the villain would be a massive eldritch creature – one named Shuma-Gorath.
According to this new report from The Illuminerdi, via insider Daniel Richtman, Shuma-Gorath is indeed intended to be the main antagonist for the upcoming MCU film. If that wasn’t enough, he’ll actually be targeting America Chavez – played by Xochitl Gomez – throughout the narrative. Apparently Shuma-Gorath is attempting to acquire the powers that belong to America Chavez because they will further grant him control across the entirety of the multiverse. Hopefully we’ll have more details about what this could mean for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and how these characters will interact throughout the narrative of Doctor Strange 2.
The cast for Multiverse of Madness includes Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular superhero. He’ll be joined by the likes of Benedict Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Rachel McAdams. It’s also expected that the film will tie in directly with the events from the recently concluded Disney Plus series WandaVision. As such, it’ll be interesting to see where things develop from here.
Sam Raimi is currently directing the film which was written by Michael Waldron. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for more updates on the upcoming film as we have them.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 25, 2022.
