With cancel culture always looking for a new target, it looks like actor Simu Liu has now been targeted. The actor recently went under the spotlight after the trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was released. The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film is no doubt going to be a big one for Marvel Studios and Disney, and as such star Simu Liu is being eyed all over social media. As a result, however, it looks like the actor was targeted by the aforementioned cancel culture when an old tweet of his resurfaced online.
In particular, the tweet was made in 2012 and it appears that Simu Liu decided to negatively react to Nicki Minaj. He said some particularly insensitive things, such as comparing the music to a homeless man yelling at a pigeon. And as you can imagine, it wasn’t received too positively after it resurfaced following the actor’s Marvel-levels of popularity.
In an effort to back track the negative reception he received for the tweet, he decided to join in and also criticize himself for saying such things. Simu Liu specifically decided to call himself a “dumb 23 year old” at the time. As stated:
“Well this was a highly dumb tweet. Looks like a dumb 23 year old trying to sound clever.”

With that in mind, Simu Liu then deleted the tweet in which he criticized Nicki Minaj’s music. Perhaps the best decision he could have made regarding the controversial situation. In any case, it will definitely be interesting to see how Simu Liu moves forward in his career. Especially considering that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be one of Marvel’s most interesting films yet. Hopefully we’ll have more details on the project soon now that the trailer has been released.
The upcoming MCU film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be hitting theaters later this year on September 3, 2021.
