The CW is certainly becoming known for their wide variety of live-action adaptations. While most of these are comic book adaptations, such as Arrow or Riverdale, it seems they’re tackling a popular Cartoon Network series next. In particular, The CW is working on a live-action adaptation of The Powerpuff Girls. While the cast for the series was previously announced, the first behind the scenes look has been released. And it’s definitely what you’d expect to see.
The behind the scenes look, which comes in the form of a video, shows the titular Powerpuff Girls in their signature costumes. That’s right – Bubbles, Buttercup, and Blossom in their respective blue, green, and pink dresses. It’s an interesting look, especially considering these are supposed to be the grownup versions of the child characters from the cartoon series. What’s more, the footage even shows one of the girls flying – so they’re sure to have all of their superpowers as well. That will certainly come in handy when they battle their foes, which will apparently include the son of Mojo Jojo among others.

While the specific plot has yet to be released, the setup will focus on “disillusioned twentysomethings” that “resent having lost their childhood to crime fighting.” If that doesn’t sound like the setup for a series on The CW, then I don’t know what does. But combining that with the kind of material that Powerpuff Girls is known for, it’ll certainly be a surprise no matter how it turns out. Hopefully we’ll have more details soon.
The confirmed cast for the series includes Chloe Bennet as Blossom, Dove Cameron as Bubbles, and Yana Perrault as Buttercup. Donald Faison will play Professor Utonium and Nicholas Podany will be Joseph “Jojo” Mondel Jr.
A release date for the upcoming live-action Powerpuff Girls series has yet to be announced, but we’ll be sure to share it whenever The CW announces it.
