Some very sad news to pass along today, as it’s been revealed that rapper DMX has died. He was hospitalized on April 2nd for an apparent drug overdose and heart attack in his home in New York. He was 50 years old.
The rapper’s family has released this statement:
We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50-years-old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days. Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized.
DMX (born Earl Simmons) had giant success as a musician, mainly in the early 90’s and 2000’s. He had 8 albums, 4 of which went at least platinum, with including …And Then There Was X – going 5 times platinum and featured the hit single “Party (Up In Here)”. Comic book fans likely remember the song “X Gonna Give It To Ya'” being featured in 2016’s Deadpool movie.
Alongside his very successful music career, the talented artist appeared in such films as Romeo Must Die, Exit Wounds, Belly, Cradle 2 The Grave and others.
DMX sadly leaves behind 15 children, the youngest of which was born in 2016 to his fiance, Desiree Lindstrom.
