Ever since her return in Episode 3 of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Sharon Carter has become a hot topic amongst fans. The character has gotten more development in just this one episode than we got in her previous two appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We got a slightly darker side to the former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, having been left to hide after the events of Captain America: Civil War. And, as Sharon Carter proves how much of a bad-ass she really is, fans have a bit of contention over her kissing scene with Captain America from her last appearance – and now actress Emily Van Camp has addressed it.
Sitting down with Variety, Emily Van Camp discussed that now infamous scene, its backlash and her excitement to explore Carter’s character independent of Cap:
“I know! There was quite a bit of backlash about that. With Sharon, it was always trying to fit her in and these movies are just too big, and it’s completely understandable. To get to see who she’s become over this long period of time, and independent of Captain America as we know him, is really interesting to me. The intrigue for me was to see who is Sharon now.”
She felt regulated to a plot device of sorts in Civil War, but has turned it around in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. In fact, some believe she might end up being the main villain of the series. This is most likely not going to happen, but the theory still is gaining traction. Regardless, we are finally getting a proper Sharon Carter in the MCU and she is ready to make her mark in this series. There is tension around pardons after Avengers: Endgame and Carter being passed over as well as where she was and what she was doing during the Blip.
Whether Sharon Carter turns out to be the Power Broker or reveals to be the hero we all know her to be, we ca n all see that the character is finally getting the arc she deserves. Hopefully, we’ll get even more Carter in the future of the MCU.
