It’s commonly known that Thanos has more or less been considered the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s biggest villain since its inception. While that was the case for at least the first three phases of the MCU, however, it might not be going forward. In fact, a new report suggests that Disney and Marvel are already eyeing their next MCU villain – and they have the potential to become the most powerful yet. What’s even better is that this particular character in question is already a character well known by Marvel fans everywhere.
According to the report, which comes via insider Daniel Richtman, the next big villain in the MCU will be none other than Wanda Maximoff herself. This is some particularly interesting information, especially with what else Richtman adds. It seems that Wanda Maximoff won’t simply be the next big villain of the long-running superhero franchise and cinematic universe. No, much rather, Wanda Maximoff will end up being the most powerful MCU villain in general. This means she will definitely be the next step up from Thanos, who was previously thought to be the ultimate antagonist for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its many superheroes.
Unfortunately, there isn’t much more information than that to go by – and it isn’t the first time that it’s been talked about. But considering the ways that WandaVision developed the titular Wanda Maximoff, then it definitely appears to be a likely scenario. Especially when you think about just how powerful she was already becoming in the highly popular Disney Plus series. Of course, only time will tell what could happen for sure. But keep in mind, that with Thanos gone, someone will need to fill those shoes.
We’ll likely know more by the time Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness rolls around. The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster is intended to showcase Wanda Maximoff right beside Doctor Strange himself. And considering how massive of a film it will be for the MCU, we can only assume it will be equally massive for Wanda’s future as either a superhero or supervillain.
As stated above, though, only time will tell. So with that in mind, be sure to stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any updates as we have them. Hopefully we’ll have a better idea regarding the legitimacy of this report as we approach the release date for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
