The third episode of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has been released, and once again this series is rocking on all cylinders. After an emotional second episode, this one takes a more action-esque approach and brings back a villain from Captain America: Civil War: Baron Zemo. We also see Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes head to a whole new corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We even get a visit from an old friend. But in a ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ moment, there is an Easter egg that points to a particular feral Canuck.
SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER EPISODE 3!
After Zemo escapes from prison (with a bit of help from Bucky), they all head to Madripoor to get answers on the new Super Soldier Serum that is floating around. For those who are unaware, Madripoor is an old pirate town that has become the Black Market hub of the MCU. Crime rules all here. As Zemo, Barnes, and Wilson head to find answers, they pass a few different nightclubs. One that they pass is called ‘The Princess Bar’, which is actually pretty significant. In the comics, Madripoor is more closely related to the X-Men, more specifically, Wolverine. During his time as ‘Patch’, when Logan was laying low and working undercover, he worked at The Princess Bar.
Now, it is highly unlikely that we will actually see Patch in this series, but this does lay the groundwork for a future story here. It is also another great Easter Egg for the fans.
Kevin Feige actually spoke about this in an interview last month, saying:
“There’s a setting in particular that people have already glimpsed in some of the trailers that is a setting from the Marvel Comics that was not previously available to us, but it’s more of an Easter egg in and of itself.”
We know that Disney and Marvel now have the rights back for mutants and their properties, so seeing them sprinkled into the MCU is pretty cool indeed. Now, surely theories will start popping up ‘confirming’ Wolverine showing up in this series, but don’t hold your breath. Let us just enjoy this series and the Easter Eggs we all get to see.
