Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has been the basis for a variety of movies, including sequels, remakes, and reboots alike. But the latest direct sequel will be especially unique compared to all of the other films in the franchise. According to a new announcement, the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel will actually bring back the character Sally Hardesty for the first time since the original film. Aside from an unnamed cameo in Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation, Sally Hardesty has been absent from every film since the 1974 original. This definitely lends this new reboot an extra layer of authenticity. As an added bonus, not only has the actress for Sally Hardesty been announced – but we now also know who will be playing the character Leatherface.
As revealed via Bloody-Disgusting, Sally Hardesty will be played this time by Olwen Fouéré. Fans may remember the actress for her particularly memorable performance in the film Mandy. Meanwhile, the new Leatherface will be played by actor Mark Burnham. He’s been involved with projects like Lowlife and Wrong Cops. No doubt getting to see the two characters back on screen together will be a truly exciting experience.

Unfortunately, actress Marilyn Burns passed away in 2014. She was the original actress for Sally Hardesty and also participated in the above mentioned cameo from The Next Generation. So while she won’t be able to reprise the role, this should be a great way to honor her contributions to the franchise. Similarly, original Leatherface actor Gunnar Hansen also passed away in 2015. It’ll be interesting to see how the new movie will treat their characters.
The rest of the film’s cast includes Elsie Fisher (Castle Rock) alongside Sarah Yarkin (Happy Death Day 2U), Mark Burnham (Wrong Cops), Moe Dunford (The Dig), Olwen Fouéré (Mandy), Alice Krige (“Star Trek”), Jacob Latimore (The Maze Runner), Nell Hudson (Victoria), Jessica Allain (The Laundromat), Sam Douglas (Snatch), William Hope (Dark Shadows), and Jolyon Coy (War & Peace).
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel/reboot was directed last year by David Blue Garcia, from a script written by Chris Thomas Devlin. The film was produced by Fede Alvarez with Bad Hombre’s Rodolfo Sayagues, alongside Kim Henkel (co-writer of the original 1974 The Texas Chain Saw Massacre), Ian Henkel and Pat Cassidy, who are producing via Exurbia Films.
