When Iron Man came out in 2008, not many people realized just how big the Marvel Cinematic Universe would end up being. What we did realize, however, is that Robert Downey Jr. is a hell of an actor and he truly embodied the role of Tony Stark/Iron Man. After ten years in the suit, however, RDJ’s time as the superhero came to a fitting end in the highest grossing movie of all time, Avengers: Endgame. But, fans just couldn’t seem to let go. Countless rumors run amok on the internet, proclaiming that the actor will return for more screen time as Stark.
However, RDJ has updated his look as a kind of confirmation that his time with Marvel is truly over.

Downey has finally updated his Twitter avatar with a picture of himself that he captioned “New look…”. And, while he seems to be channeling his Less Than Zero days, there is just a hint of Tony Stark there, showing that while his time in the role is over, it definitely made a huge impact on his life. Downey has, in several interviews, admittedly stated that his time as Stark is over. He’s looking forward to the “back nine” of his life and is moving onto “greener pastures”. The incredibly deep, spiritual, and meditative actor is grateful for what he got out of Iron Man as well as what he was able to give fans but knows when it’s time to move on instead of driving it into the ground.
Robert Downey Jr. is happy with how his time ended in the MCU. He even stated on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon while promoting Dolittle that it was “better to fire yourself before you get fired”, meaning it was better to leave on a high note that disappoint fans to the point the studio cut him.
