The many installments of the Friday the 13th franchise have had a wide variety of filming locations. But with Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives being one of the most popular entries in the series, there’s no doubt that the filming location for that particular film is a highlight for many fans to one day visit. Well, now fans have the perfect excuse! It’s been revealed that a screening for Jason Lives is scheduled to happen in August of this year, and it’s being held at the original filming location used in the movie! The location is located in Rutledge, Georgia, and director Tom McLoughlin will also be joining in on the event.
As explained at Bloody-Disgusting, the screening is being held as part of Kenny Caperton’s “On Set Cinema” which includes screenings of movies at their actual filming locations. Here’s what Caperton had to say about the Jason Lives screening event:
“On Set Cinema returns to Camp Blood for our 3rd Annual Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives event! Celebrate the film’s 35th Anniversary with the ultimate Jason Lives experience. Kill or be killed at Camp Daniel Morgan (aka Camp Crystal Lake …aka Camp Forest Green) at Hard Labor Creek State Park in Rutledge, Georgia where the majority of Jason Lives was filmed – see where Sheriff Mike Garris gets bent completely in half by Jason, walk on the pier where Officer Thornton gets a dart to the forehead, hang out in the cabin where Sissy gets snatched out of the window and her head twisted off, or swim in the lake where Tommy fights Jason during the movies’ climatic ending!”
He further explained how director Tom McLoughlin will be involved, which includes his return to the filming location for the first time since production on the movie wrapped in the 1980’s.
“This year we’ll be doing 2 back-to-back events and for the first time one of the events will be taking place on Friday the 13th! We’re excited to announce that Jason Lives director Tom McLoughlin will be returning to Camp Blood for the first time since filming took place! He’ll be signing autographs, taking photos with fans on the pier, doing a Q&A after the movie screening, and a filming locations tour of both the Jason Lives cemetery and Camp Crystal Lake / Camp Forest Green!”
“Fans will enjoy an entire weekend of summer camp – shared cabin camping with bunk beds, games (egg toss, corn hole, badminton, tug-of-war, board games, video games and more!), camp fires with friends, roasting marshmallows and making s’mores, watching VHS horror movies on tube TVs, swimming and canoeing in Crystal Lake and of course a complimentary outdoor screening of Jason Lives by the lake – you’ll be able to watch the movie while on the pier or in the water! …but remember campers, Jason will be watching!”
This definitely sounds like a once in a lifetime event for Friday the 13th fans, and those interested can grab tickets and learn more here. The events are scheduled to take place this year on August 13-15 and August 15-17.
