Many Deadpool fans have been eager to know how exactly the iconic character would exist under Disney. After all, the previous Fox movies were R-rated and existed in a completely separate continuity from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, it looks like neither of those aspects will be a problem moving forward. According to Kevin Feige, not only will Deadpool 3 be R-rated, but it will actually take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Kevin Feige revealed as much while speaking with Collider, and even stated that filming could begin as early as 2022. Here’s what Kevin Feige specifically had to say:
“It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan’s overseeing a script right now… It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life.”
These are some exciting details, especially for fans who’ve been waiting for an update on Deadpool 3 and its potential place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now that we know the beloved mercenary will exist in the MCU, it’s only a matter of time before more details come to light. In the meantime, we at least have plenty of other MCU projects on the way after the 2020 hiatus.
Deadpool 3 is currently being written by the Molyneux Sisters, Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin. According to Feige’s comments, we can expect a 2023 release date at the earliest. And, of course, Deadpool and Deadpool 2 star Ryan Reynolds is intended to return as the character once again for this new outing.
