WandaVision looks to not only kick off the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4 after the longest hiatus since the founding in the MCU in 2008, but also looks to blow everyone away with Marvel’s most unique story yet as well as their first foray into the connected Disney Plus series. The reality warping series looks to traverse the sitcom troupes over the history of television, hitting each decade since the 50’s on its way. As fans count down the days until its release on January 15th, many have wondered exactly how many episodes we will be getting. Now, an official Disney Plus press release has answered that question.
Thanks to a press release from Disney, we now know that there will be nine episodes of WandaVision on the Disney Plus streaming service. The long-standing rumor had been 6-8 episodes, but it looks like Marvel had enough story to stretch it out to 9. There is no word yet on the length of each episode, however. When the rumor was 6, it was believed that each episode would be an hour long (this is based on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, with star Anthony Mackie speaking about the series being a 6-hour long film, broken into six pieces). Now, it could be that each episode is only half an hour long, making the total 4.5 hours, or it could be 9 hours’ worth of content. We just don’t know yet.
Regardless of the episode length time, fans should be really excited to get 9 episodes of WandaVision. And, if each episode is released weekly, the final episode will hit mid-March, right before what should be the start of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. This means fans will get to go from one series directly into the next, which in turn will build right into the Black Widow release as well as the Loki series. Loki should, in turn, run into the theatrical release of Shang-Chi as well as the What If…? series, and so on. In other words, it looks like Marvel will give us new content nearly every single week of this year!
After no new MCU content in nearly a year, it looks like the studio wants to make it up to us by giving us the most stacked year of Marvel content ever, with four feature films and a projected six series on Disney Plus.
