The Spider-Man rumor mill went into overdrive when it was reported that Tobey Maguire was set to reprise his role as Spider-Man in Spider-Man 3. After all, it would be the first time that he’d play Peter Parker since 2007 — and the Sam Raimi trilogy has long been a favourite among fans. While Sony, Marvel or Maguire have yet to comment on the rumors, that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating how — and when — his version of Peter Parker could be headed back to the Spidey-verse. Especially after he was spotted at a costume fitting as Spider-Man 3 films.
One artist has come up with a take on what Maguire’s Spider-Man could look like in Spider-Man 3, should his return be confirmed. Instagram user @spdrmnkyxxiii’s artwork showcases the character as an older, slightly more – worldly version of Peter Parker. He’s definitely been through some epic battles, anyways.

Maguire isn’t the only familiar face reported to be returning for Spider-Man 3. Kirsten Dunst is said to be returning as Mary-Jane Watson, while Emma Stone is rumored to be back as Gwen Stacey. Andrew Garfield is also reported to have signed on to reprise the role of Peter Parker, meaning it looks like fans are in for three Spider-Men throughout the film.
Jamie Foxx and Alfred Molina are both set to return as some of the Peter Parkers’ nemesis’, Electro and Doctor Octopus, respectively. And while Maguire and Garfield are both reported to be returning for the film, recent rumors have suggested that it may not be for very long — just for a cameo appearance.
