Charlie Cox is rumored to be joining the cast of Spider-Man 3 as Daredevil. The actor first debuted as Matt Murdock in the Marvel Cinematic Universe spinoff on Netflix’s Daredevil series. The show ran for three seasons before it was cancelled in late 2018 — but fans have been hopeful that they may see him on screen again at some point. And a little more than a week after the rights to the The Man Without Fear’s adventures reverted back to Marvel Studios, it looks like they may have gotten their wish.
According to Murphy’s Multiverse, Cox is going to be returning as Daredevil — but this time, on the big screen. Sources told the site that a deal has been in place “for months” for Cox’s Daredevil to appear in Spider-Man 3. Neither Sony or Marvel Studios, or even Cox himself, have commented on the reports. It comes as the rumored cast for Spider-Man 3 just keeps growing and growing.
J.K. Simmons is set to reprise his role as J. Jonah Jameson, while Benedict Cumberbatch is said to be appearing in the film as Dr. Stephen Strange. Jamie Foxx is reported to be back as Electro, while Alfred Molina has been rumored to return as the villainous Doctor Octopus — sparking rumours of a possible Sinister Six storyline for the highly anticipated film.
It also looks like Tom Holland may not be the only web-slinger around when the film hits the big screen. A new report says Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire are likely to be reprising their roles. Collider says that Garfield will definitely be back as Parker, while Maguire is in talks to return. Kirsten Dunst, who played Mary Jane Watson in the original trilogy, and Emma Stone, who played Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel, are also both rumored to be returning for the film.
If all of the reports turn out to be true, it looks like Spider-Man 3 is going to feature quite a few characters and fans are definitely going to be happy. We’ll be sure to keep you posted on the status of Charlie Cox and the rest of the stars in Spider-Man 3 as we get the latest information.
