The Marvel Cinematic Universe has faced massive delays, just as the rest of the world, due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. Hollywood has been all but shut down, theaters are closed, and productions have just now started to get back on track after nearly 8 months of closure. Now, as the planet tries to get back to some semblance of normal, Marvel Studios is moving forward with their Phase 4 films and Disney Plus shows. One such movie is Thor: Love and Thunder. Being the first time that a character in the MCU is getting a fourth solo film, Thor: Love and Thunder looks to explore Thor’s new dynamic, as well as bringing back Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, and seeing her take the mantle of Mighty Thor.
Now, a new casting insight gives us more of an idea of the film’s plot, and how this film ties into the ending of Avengers: Endgame.
The Hollywood Reporter, via ComicBookMovie, has let it be known that Chris Pratt is signed on to reprise his role as Star-Lord in the fourth Thor film. This answers a lot of questions, as Thor joined the Guardians of the Galaxy at the end of the Infinity Saga. James Gunn has stated before that he wasn’t sure if Thor fit into his plans for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. With Pratt joining the cast of Thor 4, we could get a bit of story about Thor’s time with the cosmic misfits and why he leaves them, which kicks off the plot of Thor’s solo flick.
Marvel painted themselves a bit into a corner by having Thor join the Guardians of the Galaxy in Endgame. Gunn’s script has been done for quite some time and expect for minor tweaks to include Marvel’s overarching story for the next few phases. Gunn had his vision locked down to complete the Guardians’ story, so adding the monkey wrench of Thor joining the team could have really screwed up his plans. Now, Marvel can properly pay off that build up without affecting the next Guardians of the Galaxy film.
