Although there seemed to have been some rough patches with getting the long-anticipated Insidious 5 film off the ground, the film is officially now underway! In fact, the newly announced horror film already has an exciting director attached – actor Patrick Wilson who portrayed Josh Lambert throughout the original film series. On top of getting to direct Insidious 5, Patrick Wilson will indeed be returning as Josh Lambert for the production as well.
What’s more, the new film will be a direct continuation of Insidious and Insidious: Chapter 2, showing the present situations of the Lambert family as young Dalton Lambert now begins college. Actor Ty Simpkins will once again portray Dalton Lambert.
Here’s what star and soon to be Insidious 5 director Patrick Wilson had to say about the upcoming film at BlumFest, via Bloody-Disgusting:
“I’m honored and thrilled to be at the helm of the next Insidious installment, which will provide an amazing chance to unpack everything the Lamberts went through a decade ago, as well as deal with the consequences of their choices,” Wilson explained at the BlumFest event. “Directing the movie is both professionally and personally a full circle moment for me, and I am extremely grateful to be entrusted in continuing to tell this frightening and haunting story. Into the further we go…”
Insidious 5 was written by Scott Teems from a story by franchise co-creator Leigh Whannell. As of this time, the film is expected to be released sometime during 2022, so expect production to most likely begin sometime next year.
This is extremely exciting news for fans of the Insidious franchise, especially after doubts were previously made that the film series would ever be continuing. It looks like things have changed, and seeing as the story will directly follow the events of the first two films – fans should have plenty to look forward to. Especially with franchise star and horror actor Patrick Wilson in the director’s chair.
