It’s hard to deny that Jeff Goldbum is a cultural icon. His unique delivery and quirky personality have made him one of Hollywood’s best actors, with several legendary films under his belt. Arguably his most well known role is as the charismatic Chaos Theory expert, and nearly T Rex food, Dr. Ian Malcolm in the early 90’s blockbuster, Jurassic Park. Now, as Goldblum returns again to the role for Colin Treverrow’s Jurassic World: Dominion, he has recreated an iconic moment from the first film.
Jeff Goldblum is synonymous with Dr. Malcolm. And, while his acting is great, breathing immense life into the character from the late Michael Crichton’s best selling novel, it’s hard to deny that his most memorable moment came in the form of one scene in particular. No, not the “That’s one big pile of shit” scene. No, not the “Life finds a way” line. It’s the accidentally sexy pose on the table with his black silk shirt unbuttoned. Now, I say ‘accidentally sexy’ because Malcolm is trying to recover from a terrible gash in his leg where the T Rex tried to make a meal out of him. Using the table as a make shift hospital bed, John Hammond and Ellie Sattler do their best to seal the wound. But, this pose has lead to a cultural phenomenon. There are Funko POPs, paintings, memes, and even a massive statue in London! So, Goldbum decided to recreate the scene a bit for an Instagram post while on set of the latest film in the franchise.
It’s unclear if this is from an actual scene in the film, or simply just for fun, but you can’t put it past Treverrow to pay homage to the original film somehow. This film will see the return of not only Dr. Malcolm, but Sam Neill’s Dr. Alan Grant, and Laura Dern as Dr. Sattler, reuniting the original cast to go along with Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady and Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire Dearing. And, with dinosaurs loose on the mainland, Malcolm could have the worse case of deja vu ever, suffering another attack and ending up once again ‘accidentally sexy’. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens in June of 2022.
