WarnerMedia’s streaming service HBO Max has definitely been a massive success for the company. With a variety of original programs already on the service and more on the way, fans of properties like DC, Gremlins, and much more have had plenty to look forward to. In fact, an entire Green Lantern series is on the way – with plans to include characters like Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, Sinestro, and other Green Lanterns. Now the HBO Max show’s writers have been revealed – and so the Green Lantern series will be written by Seth Grahame-Smith, who is also acting as showrunner, and Marc Guggenheim will also be sharing writing duties.
These are some interesting choices for sure. As explained by Deadline, Seth Grahame-Smith was at one point attached as the writer and director for the film adaptation of The Flash. Meanwhile, Marc Guggenheim was the co-creator of the TV series Arrow and he also co-wrote the 2011 Green Lantern film.
The series, which will currently consist of ten episodes, is being produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros.
As further explained:
“The drama will depict the adventures of a multitude of Lanterns, including Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz and Alan Scott — Earth’s first Green Lantern, who, true to the comics, is a gay man — and many more. The series will also include fan favorites such as Sinestro and Kilowog, and will also introduce new heroes to the ranks of the Green Lantern Corps.”
Hopefully we’ll have more details on the HBO Max Green Lantern series soon, especially now that the writers have been revealed. After all, a Green Lantern series could be a massive addition to not just HBO Max but the current catalogue of DC adaptations. Let’s hope that this attempt works out better than the initial 2011 film adaptation did – and, if they did learn from their mistakes, this could be a stellar interpretation.
