Ryan Reynolds’ portrayal of Marvel’s Deadpool is beloved by fans and critics alike, so it should come as no surprise that there’s been a lot of questions regarding just what will happen to the character now that Marvel Studios is in control of the character following the Disney and FOX merger. There have been a lot of rumors, and even teases by Reynolds himself (one of which showed a picture of the actor at Marvel Studios), but nothing concrete – and the latest rumor is anything but that – but still interesting, nonetheless. Keep in mind, though, it’s just that – a rumor.
Daniel RPK (via ComicBookMovie) is reporting that Ryan Reynolds is being courted by Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige with the most lucrative contract ever offered to an actor for a franchise. If the rumor is indeed true, the implications of such a contract have a ton of weight on the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
If Ryan Reynolds signs on to a huge contract, it would be safe to assume it’s a multi-picture deal that would not only include more Deadpool solo outings, but also various cameo in other films and team-ups ala The Avengers. With Deadpool’s funny and frantic fourth wall breaking persona, this could possibly lead to a fan theory coming true of Deadpool being the new ‘Stan Lee’ cameo guy. We could see Wade Wilson popping up in every Marvel Cinematic Universe film in some capacity- and since the character is well aware that he is in a movie, he could make plenty of references to past X-Men films.
Whatever comes of this rumor regarding the future of Deadpool and the MCU, we will do our best to keep everyone informed with the truth.
