It isn’t surprising that a new Nightbreed adaptation is yet again in the works. While the original Nightbreed film, an adaptation of Clive Barker’s novel Cabal, wasn’t exactly a box office smash in the 1990’s – it’s since become a major cult classic for horror fans worldwide. What is surprising, however, is that Trick ‘r Treat director Michael Dougherty will be attached to the Nightbreed series as a director!
This is truly exciting, especially when you realize Clive Barker will also be deeply involved with the series, which he’s currently writing for. On top of this, the two are also working together on an upcoming HBO show based on Hellraiser in which Michael Dougherty is also directing and even executive producing.
Here’s what else Clive Barker had to say about the Nightbreed series while speaking with Coming Soon:
“It’s exciting, after 30 years, to go back to these characters and find out who’s still speaking to me, who wants their story told,” Barker brightly expressed. “My tongue isn’t in my cheek when I say that as when I start a piece, it’s listening. The writing is a piece of listening, I’ve always said I was a journalist and what I was reporting on was the space between my ears.”
The new Nightbreed series will be executive produced by James G. Robinson, David Robinson and Barbara Wall of Morgan Creek. Clive Barker himself and Mark Miller of Seraphim Films will also be attached as executive producers.
Hopefully we’ll have more information on the series soon. As stated above, the original novel and film are two beloved pieces for many horror fans – it’ll be sweet to see the franchise expanded with a new series adaptation. Especially with Michael Dougherty and Clive Barker involved. So stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any future updates as we have them.
