The next installment in the Scream franchise is prepping for production this year, with several cast members from the original film franchise set to reprise their iconic characters alongside new actors and actresses. While we’ve known that production was set to begin this year for quite some time, we now also know the film’s release date. According to Paramount Pictures’ release date announcement, fans can expect Scream 5 to hit theaters on January 14, 2022.
The news was revealed on the official Scream Twitter account, along with a small teaser video that shows off the classic Ghostface mask. Perhaps we can now write down that the original mask will be making a return. Now if we can just get confirmation that actress Neve Campbell will return as well.

At this rate, it’s incredibly exciting to see what news for Scream 5 will come next now that we know the release date. Once filming starts, there will be no telling what kind of sneak peeks and information will come out. And that is an incredibly exciting prospect considering that fans have been waiting since 2011 for another Scream film to hit theaters.
Ready or Not directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will be directing Scream 5, taking over for the late Wes Craven who directed the original four Scream films. James Vanderbilt wrote the script with Guy Busick.
It’s also been confirmed that original Scream screenwriter Kevin Williamson is executive producing alongside Chad Villella. Project X Entertainment’s James Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak are serving as producers on the film.
Hopefully the new sequel lives up to the expectations set by Wes Craven’s original series of Scream films. But considering the returning cast and crew involved, we can assume that this new Scream movie will respect and carry on the legacy of the originals.
We’ll know for sure now when it hits theaters on January 14, 2022.
