They said that the Eagles would only reunite as a band when ‘hell freezes over’. Then, there was the ‘Hell Froze Over’ Reunion Tour. They said the Chicago Cubs would never win another World Series, then came their 2016 Championship win. There have been plenty of times when someone says ‘never again’, only for the old adage ‘never say never’ comes into play and it actually happens. One such time is now. Ben Affleck, who had wiped his hands of the Batman character after the abysmal response to Joss Whedon’s version of Justice League and his solo film falling apart. However, it looks like we will indeed get Affleck as Batman once again, as he’s set to appear in The Flash solo film. But, does that mean we will get more of Batfleck?
While the news broke just recently that Affleck would be returning to the role for the supposed ‘Flashpoint’ storyline in The Flash, The Wrap is reporting that he has been in talks for weeks, and even asked for some changes to the script before he would join. Those changes were apparently made, and now he’s on board. But, they are also reporting that this will be the last time Betfleck appears on screen, saying that “there will be no other films with Affleck’s Batman or an HBO MAX show as has been rumored online amongst fanboy outlets.”
With both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck back under the cape and cowl for this film, it seems like a lock that we’re getting the ‘Flashpoint Paradox’ storyline. What will be most interesting to see is if we get a meeting of the two Bats anytime in the film. It will also be intriguing to find out just what changes Affleck wanted to the script as well. Hopefully one day we find out, possibly after the film’s release in 2022.
