The Scream franchise is preparing for another massive return, with production on Scream 5 scheduled to begin this year. As the film is being prepped to go in front of cameras, we’re finally starting to see more cast announcements for the upcoming sequel. We already learned that actor David Arquette and Courteney Cox from the original Scream films were attached to return, with Neve Campbell currently undergoing negotiations. It was also revealed that actress Melissa Barrera would be joining the cast as an entirely new character. Now it seems Jenna Ortega is the next newcomer to join the Scream franchise with Scream 5.
The news that Jenna Ortega would be making an appearance in Scream 5 was revealed by Deadline.
According to them, Jenna Ortega “recently wrapped filming on Songbird opposite Demi Moore and Bradley Whitford, which was one of the first notable feature productions to shoot in Los Angeles after the pandemic shutdown.”
It’s a good sign that Hollywood is still managing to produce content despite the Coronavirus pandemic no doubt creating all kinds of new restrictions. This means that we’re more than likely going to see Scream 5 successfully shoot this year, hopefully without any complications. The plan is to film in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Hopefully we’ll continue to receive more casting and story announcements soon while production prepares to start, and let’s keep our fingers crossed that Neve Campbell agrees to come back.
Ready or Not directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will be directing Scream 5, taking over for the late Wes Craven who directed the original four Scream films. James Vanderbilt wrote the script with Guy Busick.
It’s also been confirmed that original Scream screenwriter Kevin Williamson is executive producing alongside Chad Villella. Project X Entertainment’s James Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak are serving as producers on the film.
Scream 5 is still intended for a release date later next year in 2021 if all goes as planned.
