It goes without saying that 2020 has been a year where anything could happen, and that seems to extend to October 31, on Halloween. As it turns out, there’s set to be a Blue Moon this Halloween 2020 – and that’s certainly a rare occurrence that will be exciting to admire. Of course, this doesn’t mean the moon will be any kind of special color. Rather, this Blue Moon will be the second full moon in a single calendar month – something that tends to happen very rarely. Hence the saying, “once in a blue moon.” It’s also worth mentioning that a Blue Moon can also be the third of four full moons of a season.
Nevertheless, we’ll be having the former this year. The news that there would be a Blue Moon on Halloween 2020 was revealed by EarthSky. According to them, the last time we had a Blue Moon was on March 31, 2018. And the next seasonal Blue Moon won’t be all the way until August 22, 2021.
Again, as explained by EarthSky, the term Blue Moon won’t actually mean the moon will be blue. While there is always a chance it could be for unrelated reasons, it’ll likely just appear as a normal full moon. As stated:
“A blue-colored moon is rare. But folklore has defined two different kinds of Blue Moons, and moons that are Blue by name are pretty common. The next Blue Moon will come on October 31, 2020. It’ll be called a Blue Moon because it’ll be the second of two full moons in a single calendar month.”

With that said, this Halloween will definitely be a strange one with the unfortunate Coronavirus pandemic no doubt making an impact. But that surely won’t stop some of the festivities that people will continue to perform for the sake of the holiday, and with that in mind, the fact we’ll also be getting a Blue Moon on Halloween is most definitely something of a cherry on top.
