For many Marvel fans, Hugh Jackman will always be Wolverine. Sadly though, his run as the character came to an end in 2017 in Logan – in which he was given a send-off in a movie that was regarded as the best FOX movie Jackman did as the iconic character. It left fans wanting more, but Jackman has said he’s done with the role and won’t be returning – and as you already probably know, the rights to all of the X-Men characters reverted back to Marvel Studios after Disney acquired 20th Century FOX. So what’s next? Well, a new rumor might give us an idea of where Marvel is headed.

Hercules and Wolverine.

It’s worth pointing out that that back in March, Marvel Comics was hinting at a gay relationship between Wolverine and Cyclops, and there have been gay versions of the character – like back in 2012, when Wolverine was with Hercules in X-Treme X-Men #10 – which was set in an alternate Universe.
When you dig deeper, there’s also Daken – the son of Wolverine. A quick Google search about Daken reads: Daken has been portrayed as bisexual, having engaged in sexual situations with both men and women. Daken kissed a man in Wolverine: Origins #11; however the encounter also served to further toy with a woman he had been romantically seeing and later, Daken killed the man in question.

As far as this actually happening in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, however, I think it’s important to point out that this is just a rumor – and nothing else at this point – but it could make sense, with the diverse direction that Marvel is taking things.
We’ve already seen a bisexual character introduced in Valkyrie. Avengers: Endgame featured the MCU’s first openly gay character. Eternals is set to introduce the franchise’s first openly gay superhero. With all of that being taken into consideration, I think a gay version of Wolverine is definitely a possibility. As with everything Marvel related, though, we will just have to wait and see what happens.
