The Russo Brothers (Joe and Anthony) have had a meteoric rise in the industry. After serving as directors for fan-favorite TV series like Arrested Development and Community, the duo got their big break directing Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Effortlessly meshing a spy conspiracy flavor with a touching portrayal of Captain America and Winter Soldier’s friendship, their first effort was a smash hit, leading to the two directing some of the MCU’s biggest projects in Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Captain America: Winter Soldier. Now working outside of the Marvel system, The Russo Brothers have big plans with their career.
In an interview with Collider, The Russo Brothers confirmed that they will direct their next three projects consecutively, with each already fully planned for production. Check out their comments:
“We’ve got three projects ready to go that we will probably direct in succession over the next two, two-and-a-half years. We’re going to be very active. We’ll announce those when the time is right, but they run the gamut, and we of course love action, so I’m sure one of those could be an action film and there’s some big universe stories in there as well.
On a personal level, it’s about the stories we want to tell and how we connect to those stories. We have projects that we’ve been working on for years that we want to bring to the screen. We have secret projects, big, new universe projects that we’re working on that we want to bring to the screen.”
It will be interesting to see how these two operate outside of the Marvel brand. Considering their success in balancing the large MCU roster, I think they are adept at crafting a blockbuster of their own, whether they choose to write these projects or entrust in other screenplays.
